It has been three years since Pepé Le Pew got thrown under the bus and writers/producers decided at best to opt him out for now until the culture climate got better. He was pitched to be in Tiny Toons Looniversity but producers probably decided or were likely told to hold him off (given how Lola Bunny replaced him according to a writer on the show). I understand why he got snubbed from Space Jam: A New Legacy because of changing cultural tastes at the time and from a business perspective, they saw it was a risk.
The character may have some limited mileage, but I researched and the same thing happened to Speedy Gonzales years ago and he sat on the shelf for awhile. I think Pepé could be used again albeit limited to just one major role but mostly just blink and miss cameos. He was retooled as a spy in New Looney Tunes. It was a surprise since he is probably one of the most difficult
Even though I am not alright with permanent or indefinite removal, this happened with a lot of other characters and they have reappeared time and time again. I think this will happen with Pepé in the coming years. I have come to realize that time and time again, the character is not as popular as any of the mainstay Looney Tunes characters.
Enough time has passed. Pepé Le Pew is never going away. It just takes one good idea and good sense to bring him back. Only when the time is right.
Hello everyone. I just made a lyric video for the song "Mexico" by Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike featuring footages from various animated series related with the Mexican culture such as Speedy Gonzalez, Mucha Lucha!, The Book of Life, Coco and The Casagrandes. I uploaded my lyric video to my Video Edit by Alex Caspian YouTube channel. I got an idea to make this lyric video after I heard it on the Russian music radio station Europa Plus.
Although I have never been actively watching Mucha Lucha!, I decided to make this lyric video. And also Speedy Gonzalez has made his non-speaking cameo in an episode of ¡Mucha Lucha! titled "Lucha, Rinse and Repeat".
