Buddy's Theatre is a 1935 Looney Tunes short directed by Ben Hardaway.
Plot[]
Buddy is working as a projectionist in a movie theater. The newsreel features a caricature of Benito Mussolini and a gag on the Swiss Navy. Coming attractions include James Bagknee (Cagney) in Here Comes the Gravy and the double feature 8 Girls in a Boat with The Thin Man. Tonight's feature stars Cookie in The Chinchilla. Buddy sighs from the projection booth as she plays piano and sings. When a gorilla climbs in her window and attacks her, Buddy jumps into the picture, literally.

Release[]
Sources differ on whether this short was released on 16 February or 1 April 1935. This page lists the former as the release date, as cited in the trade magazines Boxoffice and Harrison's Reports and in Steve Schneider's That's All Folks! which relies on original Warner Bros. release sheets.[2][3][4]
Censorship[]
- Nickelodeon cut the entire scene of the black natives running, a scene that was reused from "Buddy of the Apes" (which the network refused to air due to its racially insensitive content).[5]
Notes[]
- Animator Frank Tipper's name appears in the background.
- Animation of the cannibals is reused from "Buddy of the Apes" (1934).
- The Chinchilla is presented by "Warmer Bros." and produced by "Phoney Vitamin"; the companies are plays on "Warner Bros." and "Vitaphone", respectively.
