Buddy the Woodsman is a 1934 Looney Tunes short directed by Jack King.
Plot[]
Buddy is a woodsman. He goes through his days chopping down trees and wood. A bear comes by the lumberjacks, and Buddy has to get help from Cookie in order to dispose of him.
Television[]
- Sunset Productions (1955–1968)
- Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon/Nick at Nite (1988 - 1993)
Release[]
Several sources give conflicting release dates for the cartoons released between August and September 1934. This page lists 27 August as the release date, as cited in the trade magazine Harrison's Reports and in Steve Schneider's That's All Folks! which relies on original Warner Bros. release sheets.[2][3]
Censorship[]
- The version of this cartoon shown on the Nick at Nite version of Looney Tunes on Nickelodeon (which included many black and white Bosko and Buddy cartoons) edited the scene of the Chinese cook announcing dinnertime in broken English/Chinese gibberish. The edited version showed the Chinese cook ringing the dinner triangle, followed by an abrupt cut to the lumberjacks dropping whatever they are doing to come to the mess hall. Scenes that feature the cook not saying anything were left in, however.[4][5]
Notes[]
- This is the first WB cartoon that was issued a MPPDA certificate.
- This cartoon was released in theaters with I Sell Anything.
