Story[]
The mad Professor Duckbrain has stolen Yosemite Sam's Golden Movie Awards. He is holding them for a million-dollar ransom and has left a trail of dynamite to deter anyone from pursuing him. Sam calls upon Daffy Duck to recover his awards and deal with the professor and his henchmen.
Gameplay[]
Daffy Duck in Hollywood is a platformer in which the title character explores six levels, each based around a specific genre of films. Daffy must collect bundles of dynamite to unlock each section of a given level, and eventually the exit. Each section is blocked off by a wall; if Daffy has not collected all of the dynamite, he will be pointed back the way he came. The player must also collect all of the Golden Movie Awards hidden in each level in order to attain the good ending.
Daffy is armed with a cannon that shoots bubbles. If an enemy gets hit by the bubble, they become trapped. Daffy can also pick up an upgrade which helps him to shoot four homing fireballs at once. There are also other items that can be used to upgrade Daffy's bubble cannon, as well as diamonds, gold coins, and treasure chests which give the player bonuses.
Daffy is able to jump to higher places by jumping from the underneath base of a certain platform. He however cannot jump down levels, instead he must fall from the edge of a platform. Daffy is also able to grab some platforms, using their handholds. Once he is clinging to the bottom of a platform, Daffy can move left or right, jump off, or climb to the right.
Daffy will also encounter enemies in the game that of course want to kill him. Daffy can take four hits before he loses a life. If he dies, he has to restart from the beginning of the last section. Daffy may also die if he ends up falling on traps such as spikes. In addition, standing idle for too long will cause Daffy to be ambushed in various cartoonish ways, which also costs him a life. If Daffy loses all of his lives, then the game is over. Daffy can also get a magic wand which will summon a guardian angel which will protect him from death.
There is a preset time limit within which the player must clear each scene. The time limit is replenished whenever Daffy clears a section of the scene.
Levels in the game are named after actual Daffy Duck cartoons, such as "Scalp Trouble", "The Duxorcist", or "Robin Hood Daffy". Each level consists of three scenes; at the end of each scene, there is a single-screen bonus stage with a ten-second time limit which the player can only access if they have collected a bonus token in the main scene. The first two levels are available from the start, and individual scenes may be played in any order. After completing all the scenes in each pair of levels, Daffy must face the boss to unlock the next pair of levels.
