The Little Lion Hunter is a 1939 Merrie Melodies short directed by Chuck Jones.

Plot[]

Little African boy Inki is out hunting in the jungle with his spear, but has some difficulty in capturing any animals. On his journey he encounters the Minah Bird who hops to the tune of Fingal's Cave. He's also oblivious to the fact that a ferocious lion has selected him as prey and is sneaking up on him.

  • The film introduces the characters of Inki and the Minah Bird.
  • The music is Felix Mendelssohn's "Fingal's Cave Overture".
  • Like the other Inki cartoons, this short has been banned from television and modern home video due to heavy African stereotyping; none of them are in the Censored Eleven however.
  • The USA Turner "dubbed" version keeps the original 1938-41 MWRA end cue, while the EU Turner "dubbed" version replaces the original 1938-41 MWRA end cue with the 1941-55 MWRA end cue.
