The Tree's Knees is a 1931 Looney Tunes short directed by Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising.

Title[]

The title is a play on the 1920s expression "the bees' knees", referring to something excellent or wonderful.

Plot[]

Bosko is attempting to cut down a tree, but is stopped by a squirrel that begs him not to do it. The tree cowers in fear, and suddenly, little trees gather around to protect it. Everyone is relieved when Bosko pulls out a harmonica and starts playing it. Bosko decides to become Bosko the Woodsman, and instead of cutting trees down he spends his days playing music in the forest. Elsewhere, the trees and animals make their own music and dance to it.

Notes[]

  • This is the final Looney Tunes short and the final short entirely to be directed by both Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising, as such Harman would directed the Looney Tunes shorts mostly by himself until "Bosko's Picture Show", and Ising would direct the upcoming Merrie Melodies shorts mostly by himself until "We're in the Money".
  • This is the final Looney Tunes short featuring Bosko to not have the word "Bosko" in the title.
  • This cartoon entered the public domain in 1959.
