The Windblown Hare is a 1949 Looney Tunes short directed by Robert McKimson.

Plot

The three pigs read the story of themselves. When they become aware of the big bad wolf coming to blow down their house, they decide to sell their straw and stick houses to a sap-sucker (which would turn out to be Bugs Bunny) so the wolf will go after him.

Next Bugs arrives and sees signs signifying that the straw house is for sale. So he buys it for $10. Then the wolf arrives (while reading the same story the pigs were reading) and (of course) blows the house down. The same events happen at the stick house. Fed up with the wolf blowing his houses down, Bugs decides to get revenge on the wolf by saying "Of course, you know this means war!"

Bugs dresses himself up Little Red Riding Hood and skips off to Grandma's house with a basket of goodies and singing "The Rabbit in Red" (a parody of "The Lady in Red"). He skips by the wolf, who is reading more of the pigs' story and coming to the part where he reads that he can't blow the brick house down. Bugs turns the pages to the story of "Little Red Riding Hood", which the wolf reads and then as quickly as he can, the wolf runs to the house, kicks Grandma out and puts on her nightgown. Bugs arrives and does the "What big _________ you have" routine, mixing it with his usual violent harassment. The wolf fires back and Bugs fires forth. In the end they take off each other’s disguises and Bugs elects not to give the wolf a present. He hits the wolf with a cake and says "Remember, you asked for it!"

After various shenanigans, Bugs traps the wolf on a clothesline. Bugs tells the wolf that it serves him right for blowing the two houses down, while the wolf responds that those house really belonged to the pigs. Realizing that they were both tricked, the wolf and Bugs make peace and go to the brick house so they can get revenge on the pigs for swindling them.

When they arrive at the house, the wolf attempts to blow the brick house down, while the pigs laugh at him derisively. Then an explosion occurs, and it turns out that Bugs blew it up with dynamite.

• The part where Bugs pokes Big Bad Wolf in the eye while doing the "My, what big eyes you have!" routine was cut on CBS.

Notes

• The three little pigs from this cartoon would reappear with different voices in "The Turn-Tale Wolf", once again as the aggressors, this time picking on another Big Bad Wolf.
