Henry Binder

Henry Binder (pronounced bin-durr;^[1] 12 December 1906 - 13 November 1975) was an American producer and actor. Henry was one of the assistant producers to Leon Schlesinger, along with Ray Katz.

Biography[]

Binder was born in Bayonne, New Jersey on 12 December 1906 and later moved to Massachusetts when he was an infant. After graduating from high school, he went to work for Mack Sennett as a publicist^[2] for one year and later went to First National Pictures for a five-year stay. He then found a job as a secretary to the Los Angeles division manager of Fox West Coast Theatres, Inc. For three months, Binder managed a tie shop in San Diego and then after received a letter from Charles Rogers, the then producer of RKO, to serve as his secretary. Following the studio's purge, Binder was recruited by Leon Schlesinger, who was in need of a secretary, and joined him soon afterward.^[3] In 1942, Binder went to serve in the Navy for three years and eventually went to work for the Screen Gems cartoon studio as an assistant general manager around the same time when Ray Katz joined the studio to serve as the studio's manager before its closure in 1946.^[4] He never married and died on 13 November 1975 in Los Angeles, California.

Henry Binder's likeness also appeared in a few Looney Tunes shorts, usually alongside an animated Leon Schlesinger, such as in "Hollywood Steps Out" as himself and in "Rookie Revue" as an infantry soldier. Small doodles of him also appeared throughout "Porky's Preview", where Porky credited him as his helper.
