Hubert "Hubie" Richard Karp (11 October 1914 - 2 August 1953)[1] was an American comic book and cartoon writer.
Biography[]
Karp was born in Faribault, Minnesota on 11 October 1914. He has two older brothers, Bob and Lynn, who also worked in the comics industry and one sister named Helen who married comic book artist Don Gunn.[2] He began his career at Walt Disney Productions in 1939 where he wrote comic strips featuring characters such as Mickey Mouse and Goofy.[3] He left in 1944 and joined Warner Bros. Cartoons in November of the same year to work for the story department.[4] After Bob Clampett left the cartoon studio the following year and when Arthur Davis took over his unit, he was paired with George Hill to write for his unit.[5] For unknown reasons, Karp never received screen credit for each of the cartoons that he had wrote for. From 1948 to 1953, he wrote screenplays for the The Fox and the Crow comic series. He died on 2 August 1953 at the age of 38.
