Laraine Newman (born 2 March 1952) is an American actress, comedian, and writer. Newman was part of the original cast (the "Not Ready for Primetime" players) of NBC's sketch comedy series Saturday Night Live from its inception in 1975 until her departure in 1980. Her recurring characters on SNL include one of the Dead String Quartet musicians, Connie Conehead, Sherri Norwalk (an airheaded secretary who works for Saturday Night Live), and Christie Christina, the female assistant to Dan Aykroyd's sleazy TV host, E. Buzz Miller. Her celebrity impressions include Jimmy Carter's daughter, Amy; Barbara Streisand, Gloria Vanderbilt, Howard Hughes, Katherine Hepburn, Shirley Temple, and Squeaky Fromme.
