Controversy[]

Despite most of the newer restorations of Looney Tunes cartoons on this Blu-ray/DVD releases correcting the problem of DVNR (Digital Video Noise Reduction) which earlier restorations from the late-1990s/early-2000s had, a handful of cartoons on this Blu-ray/DVD set had heavy use of digital video noise reduction applied to them, which unintentionally erases or blurs some of the picture on certain scenes of the cartoons even more so than previous restorations, which has caused controversy among some Looney Tunes fans.[1]

Among these affected shorts in the newer re-restorations on this Blu-ray/DVD set include "Fast and Furry-Ous", "Long-Haired Hare" and "Tortoise Wins By A Hare", all of which, coincidentally, were originally first restored for Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 1 DVD release back in 2003.[2] The most recent Blu-ray collections, however, largely abandoned such noise reduction.[3]

Notes[]

  • The trailer for this volume features clips from many shorts, but of these, only "Boyhood Daze" and "Chow Hound" are in this set. A note at the end says "Not all of the Looney Tunes shorts shown in this trailer are included in the Platinum Collection".
  • The original Blu-ray release of this set is out of print and goes for around $60-$70 on online auction sites such as eBay. The Blu-ray version was re-released on 24 June 2025.
  • The German release omits the second and third discs.
