Creation of individual, linkable, separate gallery pages for each short

With non-PD video shorts being phased out of the wiki, I figure we should still have a way for people to view images of these shorts. Most other wikis offer specific galleries for episodes, so I propose to introduce them to this wiki.

For what it's worth, I own nearly all of the modern Looney Tunes DVD and Blu-ray releases, so all I would have to do is take screenshots and upload them here. I would set a limit of no more than 25 images per short (which would be approximately one image every 16 seconds). Images should be unwatermarked and restored if possible; images with screenbugs or of unrestored shorts are acceptable if they are the only copies known.

Let me know what you think of the idea. CalzoneManiac (talk) 22:04, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Support - There was never not allowed to be a gallery. I think if there are a good number of images then yes. Otherwise if it's just a few then on the same page is fine. orangemo (talk) 22:38, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

This could really help pages like "Bugs Bunny's Lunar Tunes". Pages flooded with sceenshots need this ASAP. Either that or we make limit screenshots, which may hurt some articles. Overall, this is an excellent idea and the best answer to this problem. Daffyduck100976 (talk) 03:22, 26 May 2024 (UTC)

Yes, I do believe we do need screenshots of the cartoons itself, and a proper image guidelines for them. See comments below. BF10 (talk) 21:38, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

If I remember correctly, some articles have a slideshow directly under the infobox that lists some screenshots of the short. It could be possible to implement it into the Shorts infobox that way. Especially since only up to 25 images are to be used, that can make it best to fit in a slideshow. If more then 25 is considered, then a separate gallery sounds reasonable.

If anything more though we are in need of an images guideline while removing everything unrestored. BF10 (talk) 23:12, 22 May 2024 (UTC)

Actually, 25 images may not be enough for longer cartoons; it really depends on the cartoon's length on whether it is sufficient or not. I think a rule of thumb could be having 5*(cartoon's length in minutes rounded up) images for each cartoon, so a cartoon that lasts 6 minutes can have 30 images while one lasting around 10 minutes can have 50. Also, image guidelines should specify that for these screenshots, only HD restored prints may be used unless they are not available. BF10 (talk) 21:38, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
Now that you mention it I would be find with having more images. As long as they are as unique as possible. Also, I'd like to have shots of the credits for post-1941 shorts (I believe The Heckling Hare was the first cartoon to have separate credits?) CalzoneManiac (talk) 22:15, 11 June 2024 (UTC)

Changes to the TV Special's Articles

I've been feeling that the TV Specials deserve an overhaul in layout. This new model I'm proposing is based on the one we use for the shorts.

First of all, here's a mockup of an infobox, something currently missing. It is a little crude, seeing how I made it in Google Docs and pasted it over, but I hope it gets the point across.

Changes to the TV Articles

There's only two things that should be added to the articles for TV shows. First off is a production number list just like the theatrical shorts. And two, there should only be one tab for any shorts (theatrical or otherwise) featured in the infobox, so one of them to be removed to eliminate redundancy. WarmWup (talk) 19:55, 5 June 2024 (UTC)

Do you mean TV shows or TV show episodes? This is confusing. orangemo (talk) 18:32, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

I meant TV episodes, sorry for the confusion WarmWup (talk) 16:07, 6 June 2024 (UTC)

Removal of pop culture pages not related to Warner Bros. own Golden Age works

This pertains primarily of the Pop Culture category that are not related to Wanrer Bros. output. It is jarring to see stuff like The Simpsons, Family Guy, American Dad!, or Angry Video Game Nerd on here where they all don't really belong onto this wiki's scope at all. Additionally, pop culture influence from Looney Tunes, particularly past the Golden Age, seems to be infinitely huge that there would be no practical way to document every single little pop culture influence from this series.

I'm suggesting to heavily limit down any pop culture references down to anything released in the Golden Age or completed by any of the Golden Age Warner Bros. staff. This would include keeping Jasper Goes Hunting, Two Guys from Texas, and Gremlins 2: The New Batch, to name a few. We would not keep anything that does not fit such criteria, particularly works outside of WB's output and way past the Golden Age, as this is otherwise a scope too big to complete. Selection of AlertWarning shorts

With the recent changing of the AlertWarning template to be more flexible for any type of content, I do believe that some shorts needs to be evaluated from here, as I believe some are missing or may be too light to warrant such template. For reference, the Articles containing mature content category can be used to see what currently uses the AlertWarning template. All of the contents, except Porky Pig (for the Porky's Blooper section), Bosko's Picture Show, and the proposed pop culture pages to be deleted, all use the reasoning as "containing outdated stereotyping".

Here, I am proposing changes to see which articles does deserve it, which doesn't, and those up to heavy debate. Due to the different format for this proposal, I'm utilizing separate sections for articles to add/remove, and for miscellaneous suggestions/changes to the template, alongside a "no changes" for opposing any changes to the current layout. This is also to set in stone what articles could best use the template and what doesn't, as we intend to future-proof adding/removing the template after this proposal.

A few things to note:

  • Yes, Private Snafu and Mr. Hook articles are notably missing here. The current plan is to add {{AlertWarning|s}} (the outdated stereotyping) template to all articles from there except for Gas, Private Snafu vs. Malaria Mike, and Payday due to lighter content on the latter three not featuring any of the WWII enemies. If you would like to suggest changes to this, propose it in the "Add/Remove articles" section.
  • Currently, discount the pop culture pages as they will be dealt with in the above proposal.
  • There is an additional {{AlertWarning|si}} parameter to show up for those with both strong language/imagery and outdated stereotyping. Some suggestions on where to use this would be helpful; otherwise only Censored and A Lecture on Camouflage will use it.
  • Do not add or remove the AlertWarning template to any of the articles until this proposal is finished. Anyone doing so will be warned and eventually blocked on repeat offenses.

Once this proposal is complete, changes will be done towards the AlertWarning template and pages that can keep it, and any further changes to AlertWarning will not be tolerated without admin approval. BF10 (talk) 02:37, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

UPDATE 7/5/2024: Due to the lack of activity on this proposal, I'll simplify in order to include the following changes I plan to propose, where it can be a lot more easier to dispute.

To complete the transition of the AlertWarning while setting it in stone, the following pages are planned to be changed to add/remove the warning, with their reasons why:

As a result, I'm now also making this a support/neutral/oppose vote for easier changes. If there are any changes you wish to propose, you should mark it as such in your vote. BF10 (talk) 01:15, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

I ought to mention that A Lecture on Camouflage doesn't have strong language per se, but there is a scene towards the end with mermaids (with exposed breasts). I know because I've seen the short because I wanted to know what was inappropriate about it. CalzoneManiac (talk) 02:41, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

Updated the description of {{AlertWarning|si}} to better state strong language/imagery. Also, {{AlertWarning|i}} by itself is for "strong language/imagery" only, which is currently used in Porky Pig and Bosko's Picture Show. BF10 (talk) 02:47, 7 June 2024 (UTC)

One user on the Discord server has suggested that the following criteria can be used to determine if the cartoon is considered mature enough to warrant the warning:

  • Has not ever aired on Boomerang
  • Has not ever aired on Discovery Family
  • Has not ever aired on MeTV
  • Has never been available on streaming services

This would disqualify any shorts that are currently on the air, as they are deemed safe for WB to air. MeTV Toons airing pretty soon could add additional shorts, so that may also be used too.

Another suggestion on my end is adding the label to the Minah Bird's gallery section as a good amount of the images features Inki. BF10 (talk) 17:52, 13 June 2024 (UTC)

If a cartoon doesn't prominently feature outdated stereotypes but a gallery has some images from it, I think an AlertWarning for that section only would make sense. However, this has to be prominent, such as say the Fresh Hare ending, stuff like a one off gag in From Hand to Mouse or Book Revue won't cut it. BF10 (talk) 23:25, 16 June 2024 (UTC)

Documenting here since proposal started, a new tag for wartime references has been added and was used for the wartime heavy cartoons. BF10 (talk) 21:14, 27 June 2024 (UTC)

Allowing official uploads of copyrighted shorts

Recently, the Warner Bros. Classic YouTube channel, which is owned by Warner Bros. themselves, has recently been uploading some shorts from the LT/MM catalog. While unofficial uploads are now just for public domain cartoons, can official uploads of copyrighted cartoons be allowed here? Baldi 21:19, 13 July 2024 (UTC)

  1. They are still limited videos that are often delisted quickly; for instance, the Egghead and Bugs Bunny Rides Again episodes are now delisted. I have seen that some users have not abided by waiting for this proposal to be completed and still tried to add copyrighted videos. Any additions after this point are subject to warnings.
