The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is an annual parade presented by the U.S. chain department store business Macy's. The tradition started in 1924, tying it for the second-oldest Thanksgiving parade in the United States along with America's Thanksgiving Parade in Detroit, with both parades four years younger than the Dunkin' Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade in Philadelphia.

Bugs Bunny appeared as a costumed character in 1977, 1981, 1986 and 1987.

In 1989, to celebrate Bugs Bunny's 50th Birthday, a balloon based on the character, munching on a large carrot and sitting on a golden star with "50" on it was introduced into the parade, alongside a Warner Bros. parade float with the Looney Tunes characters on it. However, the balloon missed its debut, as the balloon was torn by a tree before the parade started, so the float had to go on without the balloon.

In 1990, the balloon finally made its proper debut. The float that year had Bugs, alongside the cast of Tiny Toon Adventures. In 1991, the float made its last appearance promoting Taz-Mania and so featured characters from that series, with the balloon appearing afterwards. The balloon itself made its last appearance in 1992, after which it was retired.
