Rumors is a 1943 Private Snafu short directed by Friz Freleng.

Plot[]

Private Snafu and his buddies begin talking about a recent bombing, but the story grows more exaggerated with each passing turn. Eventually, a panic breaks out on his base that a bombing is imminent. In the end, nothing happens, but the base is quarantined and Snafu is locked up.

This short is in the public domain, since the cartoon, as well as many other Private Snafu cartoons, were made by the U.S. government, then declassified some years later.
This short appeared on The History Channel in the late 1990s and 2000s.
The fantastical creatures that appear in Snafu’s imagination carry an influence from Dr. Seuss.
