Santa Clarita, California (or just Santa Clarita) is a city in Los Angeles County, about 30 miles north of Los Angeles. In 1987, four unincorporated areas, Valencia, Canyon County, Newhall, and Saugus, joined together to be part of the city of Santa Clarita. A few unincorporated areas nearby the city limits, which include Castaic Junction, Stevenson Ranch, Humphreys, and Val Verde, did not join the others in 1987 and are still unincorporated areas with no plans to annex them. To the locals, they are considered part of the Santa Clarita area.

Just right outside the city limits is home to Six Flags Magic Mountain, an amusement park famous for its high speed rollercoasters that opened in 1971 as "Magic Mountain", and currently leases the rights from WarnerMedia to use Warner Bros. characters, including the Looney Tunes franchise, in the park. Six Flags is not located within the city and is actually located in unincorporated Los Angeles County, but uses the neighborhood Valencia as its mailing address.

As of 2010, the city's population is 176,320, the fourth largest city in Los Angeles County in terms of population.
