Six Flags Great America

Six Flags Great America is a Six Flags theme park in the Chicago metropolitan area, located in Gurnee, Illinois. This park originally opened on May 27, 1976 as Marriott's Great America, as one of the two theme parks opened by the Marriott Corporation.

History[]

Opening in 1976, The Marriott's Great America parks in Gurnee and Santa Clara were the first theme parks in the world to have exclusive rights to use the Looney Tunes characters in their parks (though Magic Mountain had Bugs Bunny during their first operating season), eventually after Marriott was disappointed by the earnings the parks not being what they expected they eventually sold both parks, the Gurnee park along with the theme park rights for the Looney Tunes ended up going to Six Flags who would later begin to use the characters in all of their Six Flags parks.

At Great America, the Looney Tunes can be found at the front of the park in front of the carousel once it opens; later in the day, they can be found in the Hometown Square area in the middle of the square (or under a canopy of a shop on hot or rainy days).
