The Day the Earth Blew Up A Looney Tunes Movie is a 2024 animated movie directed by Pete Browngardt based on the Looney Tunes Cartoons series. It premiered at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on 11 June 2024 and is scheduled to be released in the United States on 28 February 2025.[3]
Development
On 1 September 2021, it was announced that a movie based on the Looney Tunes Cartoons series was in the works and was initially set to be released on Cartoon Network and HBO Max.[4][5] On 22 August 2022, it was announced that the film would not be moving forward on the service and would be shopped elsewhere.[6]
An unfinished sneak peek of the film was uploaded online on 22 September 2022, with the finished version of the clip later released on 10 June 2024.[7][8]
The first two recording sessions of the film occurred on 24 and 25 October 2023.[9][10]
On 26 October 2023, it was announced that the film would be released in theaters in 2024. GFM Animation launched worldwide sales and shared footage of the feature at the American Film Market from 31 October until 5 November.[11]
On 16 January 2024, the official poster for the film was revealed.[12] Bob Bergen and Lara Jill Miller did not reprise their respective roles as Porky Pig and Petunia Pig.
On 8 March 2024, it was announced that production of the movie had been completed.[13]
The movie was screened at the Cannes Film Market on 14 and 19 May 2024 and had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on 11 June.[14][15][16]
In August 2024, Ketchup Entertainment acquired the North American distribution rights to the film.[17] It was screened at the Animation Is Film Festival in Los Angeles on 19 October 2024 and is set to start an awards-qualifying run on 13 December.[18][19]
The film was first released digitally on streaming services in Germany, including Amazon Prime Video.
Plot
Porky and Daffy, the classic animated odd couple, turn into unlikely heroes when their antics at the local bubble gum factory uncover a secret alien mind control plot. Against all odds, the two are determined to save their town and the world, if they don't drive each other crazy in the process.

Notes
- The title is a reference to the 1951 film The Day the Earth Stood Still.
- This is the first fully animated Looney Tunes film released theatrically. It is also the first feature film in the franchise not distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures in most territories.
- Ruth Clampett, who voiced Waitress Maude, is the daughter of Bob Clampett.
