The Rattled Rooster is a 1948 Looney Tunes short directed by Arthur Davis.

Plot

A hungry rooster, whose motto is "The early bird gets the worm," is unable to get worms; the other chickens either get there first or trick him out of the w ms. But there's one worm nobody else competes for, because it's a trickster. It uses the garden hose, a balloon, toothpaste, and a high-voltage line to fool the chicken. It gets the chicken stuck in a pipe, then launches it with a hotfoot. The rooster doesn't believe it, so the worm launches him again. The worm then attaches a baby rattle to his tail and fools the chicken, but a real rattler mistakes the worm for her child. The worm and rooster team up to get the rattler stuck in a fence, using a couple of golf balls, then shake hands and walk away. The light finally dawns on the rooster, and he comes back after the worm who traps him in the fence, right next to the snake.

Notes

  • The cartoon was long believed to be in the public domain, however, United Artists, the owner of the AAP package of the time, renewed the cartoon in late 1975.[1]

Quotes

  • Rooster: Bah! An honest citizen hasn't got a chance with those double-crossing crooks!
  • Rooster: Hey, turn it off! Cut it out! Cut it out! Stop that thing! Turn it off!
Worm: Okay, if that's the way you want it. (Aside) He's certainly asking for it, isn't he, folks? (He turns off the water, while Rooster is still in mid-air.)
Rooster: Gee. (Sigh) Thanks, pal. (He falls down)
  • Worm: He don't know how really clever I am, do he?
  • Rooster: (After he shoot out of the pipe and runs towards the worm) I bet you wouldn't dare do that again!
(After he shoot out of the pipe and runs towards the worm again) Are you trying to start something?
