Two Crows from Tacos is a 1956 Merrie Melodies short directed by Friz Freleng.
Title
The title is a play on the 1948 film, Two Guys from Texas.
Plot
Two crows, Jose and Manuel, chase the grasshopper all through the Mexican desert. The grasshopper is always a step ahead, and does not really have to do a whole lot for revenge...the crows are so stupid they end up hurting each other more than the silent, smiling bug. After injuries resulting from clubs, cacti, their own guitars, and dynamite among other things, the crows ultimately give up. "That's All Folks" is written out over the beautiful sunset background as the crows sing and play the guitar atop their tree.
Notes
- The characters of Jose and Manuel would be revisited in "Mexicali Shmoes" (1959, Freleng), in which the same characters are redesigned as cats and set out to chase Speedy Gonzales. They were later redesigned as mice whom are allies with Speedy Gonzales in "Cannery Woe" (1961, McKimson), and returned as crows in Freleng's "Crow's Feat" (1962) and their close cousin shows up as the "Loco Crow" in Robert McKimson's "Chili Corn Corny" (1965).
- Jose and Manuel are the second pair of Looney Tunes characters to be redesigned as other animals (in this case, redesigned as cats and then mice). Before them, Babbit and Catstello were redesigned as dogs in "Hollywood Canine Canteen" and as mice in both "Tale of Two Mice" and "The Mouse-Merized Cat".
